Hello everyone,
I thought I’d share my latest acquisition with you knowledgeable folk.
I recently picked up a Cherilea Saladin MK II Armoured Car, for my new collection. It’s in great condition, but was missing it’s aerials and pennants. (please take a look at ‘My Troopers Got New Wheels’ post if you’re interested in the Saladin)
I’ve been browsing the web trying to find replacement aerials, over the past week, and I eventually tracked down a set at a reasonable price. Having done the deal, the chap then casually asks whether I might also be interested in a jeep that he has, which has been sitting in the back of his garage since the 70’s.
Acquiring an Action Man Jeep and trailer or Land Rover and Trailer, has been my No.1 want since I re started collecting VAM very recently, so of course I said yes, and he sent me some photos.
The jeep was packed up in its box in bubble wrap and tissue paper, so not much was visible, but it was in a box with a picture of GI Joe on it, so I thought it was worth a look. I did a bit of research on the old tippy tappy, and arranged to go see the jeep.
Thanks are due to wolfsoldier who provided me with some further information and references regarding the GI Joe Jeep, which were very helpful in assisting my purchase.
I went, I saw, and I bought the jeep, and I am chuffed to bits with it.
I can’t afford mint in box stuff, my realm is usually charity shops and car boots, and the sort of stuff you find stuffed under everything else at the bottom of a large box of unrelated items, usually broken and always filthy. So this was something of a new experience for me.
I broke the bank on this purchase, well for me at least, but I am very pleased with the acquisition of my personal ‘ grail item’.
I bought the GI Joe Jeep mainly as it has a trailer, and has a passing resemblance to the Action Man Infantry Support Jeep.
The GI Joe Jeep is a comparatively massive model, which looks to be a more accurate scale for VAM than the blow moulded palitoy jeeps and the Palitoy Land Rover.
The Jeep is complete with it’s Original Retail Box, showing storage damage but still presentable on display.
The Jeep is complete with its 106mm Gun on a demountable tripod and three projectiles which it fires about 15 feet. It also has a search light with morse flash function again on a demountable tripod, which fits in the trailer.
The Jeep has an opening bonnet, and tail gate, a re positionable spare wheel, a Rev Motor mechanism under the bonnet, which changes pitch if you move the gear lever in the cab.
The Jeep even has its pintle pin and chain, and the safety chains on the trailer. It has two rubber tubes, a short one which fits on the gun, and a longer one which fits between the trailer and the jeep to simulate the electrical connection.
Nothing is damaged save for one of the black plastic hand rails which fit in the back of the jeep tub, this is a very very minor issue, and one which is straight forward to repair, if I can’t find a replacement.
so now all I need to find is a GI Joe Jeep instruction leaflet and a replacement hand rail (do please let me know if you have one of either for sale)
I’ve included a few photos below of the Jeep and Trailer which I hope you enjoy.
I look forward to your comments and any further information regarding these jeeps you might be able to provide, as I know very little about them.
