The vintage jumper is like a Tee shirt with the arms added. the 40th is more like a tank top with arms added. see the joining line in the photo The difference is also very noticeable around the v neck when turned inside out.
SHIRT AND TROUSERS
The 40th poppers have snap fasteners. Vintage have press studs
Vintage socks have a more nylon look, 40th have a cotton look. very hard to tell them apart. best way is the lighter flame test. turn inside out and find the end of sewing thread, hold the lighter very close 40th will melt / shrivel in to a little plastic ball. Vintage will light like a spill glow and burn out, leaving a brown singe mark. done carefully you won't set fire to your clothing.
The 40th is not stamped MADE IN HONG KONG.
The 40th shoes are not stamped HONGKONG (I also think they have shrunk )
CRICKET BALL The 40th one is in the middle, it is slightly darker red and a little larger, but the easiest way to tell is that the 40th one has wavy stitching around the seam - both originals have straight stitching, a bit like a zip.
The vintage bat is stamped HONG KONG
The vintage pads have rougher finish and are stamped HongKong . The 40th are not (note how the glue that stuck them to the card has stained the plastic)
Vintage bails look like 2 half's stuck together and are rough edged. 40th are smoother.
The 40th stumps have mould marks and smoother edges.
The vintage base is stamped HONGKONG on the underside, The top has Darker thick green paint,
