This is a photo of the VAM display at Snibston Museum, which is next to the site of the old Palitoy factory in Coalville. Not much to show for the former home of such an iconic British toy, but it's better than nothing, which is precisely what will be left shortly unless an appeal can save it from Leicestershire County Council's decision to close it down and replace it with yet another small mining museum.
I work at Snibston and it's certainly true the display is small. Perhaps if the site stays open and fell into non Council hands there could be an opportunity for a re-design.
It must be a worrying time for anyone working at Snibston. I hope it all works out for you. A bit of a redesign with a lot more focus on toy history and toy making (preferably with lots of hands-on opportunities for the kids) as well as all the interactive educational stuff that's already there would make an even more appealing attraction for families.
