1st issue : Soldiers of the century 1967
Thick cotton material with green elastic gaiters lace up boots. gasmask (with 9/16" flat lenses). gas mask bag, adjustable belt with canteen and cover Victoria cross. black elastic strap sten submachine gun. plastic tin helmet.

2nd issue : Soldiers of the World 1973. as above but thinner cotton and a varied in colour. black elastic gaiters.
gasmask had 1/2 flat lenses.

3rd issue. (late 70/80s) locker box
Very thin uniform. later type lace boots. green elastic gaiters. Canteen had plastic cover. . sten with plastic strap. thin gasmask bag.
Non slider belt?.

4th issue. locker box as above but no gas mask bag. some had a Victoria cross with a hoop instead of the prongs

5th issue The soldiers window boxed
camouflage uniform. spikey helmet. rubber 57 pattern webbing with kidney pouches knife scabbard and water bottle, scarf, standard boots and Carl Gustav. also issued in the last issue red box with orange and yellow stripe.

6th issue front liners
basic jacket trousers helmet and standard boots. not sure but I think this was thicker cotton uniform ?

did all the gas masks have lenses?

and where dose the thick fluffy cotton belt come from?

I have not heard of the Puttees being issued with the infantryman before

yeah definitely got a ww2 infantry with them,i thought my mind was going until another member asked the same question a while back and I only seen the elastic puttees when I satrted collecting again and I foolishly thougt they were just last issue

The rope is used when there is no or little visibility. the ropes were linked to form a human chain. the idea was that no one would get lost, or if they fell down a hole could be rescued. a case of "the blind leading the blind"

My Brits
1st issue is on a pat pending TC and has the early larger lenses in the gas mask it is also made from harder plastic.

2nd issue on a fuzzy gripper.

The late thin issue is on a BP figure with the plastic canteen cover, later style lace boots and thin gasmask bag. The lenses are Cotswold repros copied from the GI Joe version. (they look worse than the googly eyes that they cover)

That's a nice bit of info Daz, I always assumed that it was to tie around the waist.

Here's the earliest version, I believe first available in 1968 as Soldiers of the Century and from looking through the equipment manuals, released under that banner until the Soldiers of the World series came out in 1973. There seems to be endless shades of green and brown available from this period.

Here's my 1973ish Soldiers of the World variation with rare matching gas mask bag and as Daz mentioned black gaiters.

Here are three variations of the Victoria Cross. The first sixties one with the darker label has much more detail and you can see the quality lessoning through the three. The last one is the hooped version Daz mentioned that came with the locker box issue, took me years to find one of these so I'm guessing they are quite rare.

Here's an example of the amount of variations on the Gas mask bag, these are mine but I'm sure there are many more. As well as the colour and material you can see that the rope differs on all of them, I find the one with yellow climbing rope quite unusual. I thing these are in order of release but I'm not 100% sure.

The British infantry was my favourite as a child. So much play value and of course they always beat the Jerries

I've got two now, SOTC & SOTW and they wear their VC with pride.

I've still got mine! I guess it was just a variation along with the different colours of the uniform.

I do like the infantry with the Lee Enfield. Don't know why they issued it with the Sten? I associate the Sten more with airbourne troops and the Lee Enfield with regular infantry as this would have been standard issue would it not?

I think the reason they put a sten in the outfit was they had it as a corporals outfit and they carried the sten, but I agree the rifle would've been better,but then they didn't issue that to a good few years after the first issued infantry man
