Goodness, time flies. It seems like we've only just packed away from the last one!
Anyway, I'm pleased to announce VAME Meet 6 - the 6th annual meet for Vintage Action Man Enthusiasts.
It's on Saturday 4th June 2016 in the village of Quorn near Loughborough, just a few minutes from the M1 by car but it's also easily accessible by train to Loughborough or even by plane to East Midlands airport.
The arrangements will be similar to previous years and is in the same venue, which has served us well. As always, it is open to all vintage Action Man fans who want to buy/sell/swap vintage Action Man figures and accessories, show off their treasures and customs, or just have a chat. This is a not-for-profit event run by VAM collectors for collectors and in previous years there has been a huge array of VAM for sale from rare items and complete figures to bargain basement rummage boxes.
Entry is free, parking is free and it's even free to take a table (although any donations towards the hire of the hall are gratefully received). Tea/coffee/biscuits/sandwiches should be available if I can impose on MrsAction and other hapless members of the Action family again this year.
Last year's event is going to be hard to beat, but to mark Action Man's 50th anniversary, we are coming up with ways to make this one extra-special. Bob Brechin (Chief Designer at Palitoy) plans to join us again, hopefully with a few former Palitoy colleagues, and has agreed to give a talk on the history of Action Man from a designers perspective followed by a Q&A session. We have booked an additional function room for the talk, which will start at approximately 3pm. The room will also be used to screen interesting Action Man footage during the day.
The date, time and location are chosen to make it easy to combine with a visit to the excellent wartime weekend held every year at the Great Central steam railway nearby. Highly recommended if you're interested in WW2 history, re-enactments, vehicles, aircraft or (obviously!) steam trains: www.gcrailway.co.uk/special-events/1940s-wartime-weekend-3rd-to-5th-june/
Further details will follow nearer the time, but for now, make a note of the date in your diaries and calendars and don’t miss out on the best event for Vintage Action Man Enthusiasts in 2016!
