That looks great fun! Never had one as a kid (bit before my time) but I used to love my toy guns, although none of them could compare to such a serious bit of kit.

Happy days indeed. I seem to remember being a bit of a lone wolf sniper type between the massed battles with mates back in the day, taking out passing vehicles that were actually (in my head at least) trucks full of Jerry Stormtroopers on the way to Normandy to repel the D-Day landings (after watching 'The Longest Day') or SS staff cars carrying dastardly senior officers to interrogate captured Resistance Fighters (Norwegian, courtesy of watching 633 Squadron). Over active imagination + classic old war films = best childhood memories ever. Wouldn't recommend it to my nephew though, he'd probably have armed police storming my sister's place following a tip-off from the neighbours...........

Just had another look at the picture infront of the action men and noticed the battle of britain aircraft in their original packaging you are indeed a collector of great things to all men wanting to stay young, how did I miss that in the first place. Wowza I wish I'd had the vision to save every thing that i had as a child instead of swapping or scrapping and that includes, yes my first action man sets

I loved that film when it first came out and still love it now, that said I love most of the great british war films. Though my real tear jerker is Dunkirk with John mills in the ĺead roll I thought it was a cracker. I could go on for hours over the many films that have such a presence and still do. Didn't dinky do a hurricane as well and I can't wait to see your original models thanks for sharing 

Big fan of old war films here as well. I remember as a kid discovering that one of the old classics was due to be shown on TV (probably by scanning the TV guide page in the Daily Mirror, which covered all THREE channels) would be a major event, around which would be planned the rest of the day. How things have changed, in the last two weeks I've been channel surfing the seemingly hundreds of (mostly useless) channels on whatever this box thing is I pay for and at various times of day have watched 'Reach for the Sky' (God bless you Kenneth More), 'Angels One-Five' (you too Big Jack Hawkins), and 'The Dambusters' (Richard Todd, inspired, but from what I've read about Guy Gibson probably somewhat more approachable?), and despite having them all on DVD I sat and watched them all the way through. Brilliant.

Agree with you re John Mills in 'Dunkirk', cracking, also great in 'Ice Cold in Alex' amongst others, the bar scene at the end is brilliant (he apparently was quite drunk at the end of shooting that scene due to the number of re-takes!).

Nowadays love the old war movies as much for the footage of vintage military hardware as for the film itself. As an aviation sort of chap, love the lack of continuity or historical accuracy sometimes evident - 'Reach for the Sky' seemed to have examples of almost every mark of Spitfire taking part in the Battle of Britain ('Malta Story' with Alec Guiness does the same but re the air defence of Malta) plus an Me110 with RAF markings (obviously a captured example, only noticed that one during the latest viewing), and 'Angels One-Five' had Hurricanes that turned into Spitfires during combat then back into Hurricanes upon return to base. The American movies were just as guilty, during 'Midway' with Charlton ('damn you all to hell!') Heston there's at least one FW190 being shot down in gun camera footage (guess from some angles it would resemble an A6M) and I'm still convinced that the film also includes some out takes from the 'Battle of Britain' featuring CASA 111's (pretty sure the Imperial Japanese Navy didn't operate Heinkels from carries in the Pacific!). And if you can forgive the destruction of so many Airfix Mossies (operating way outside the normal flight envelope of a conventional aircraft design!) '633 Squadron' has some wonderful footage of Mosquitos (and the most forgiving RAF Navigator that I've ever come across after his Squadron Commander commits them all to a suicide mission!).

All understandable that film producers would use what limited resources were available, and then along comes 'Battle of Britain' and gives us aerial combat sequences filmed during the sixties that in my opinion have never been surpassed (and which also helped kick start the warbirds movement of today). It was also a reasonably accurate factual portrayal of the Battle as well, even touching on the friction between Park and Leigh-Mallory and the use of the 'Big-Wing', something that 'Reach for the Sky' completely sidestepped (by not mentioning Park at all!), although again understandable as the film was about Bader (who championed the Big-Wing in his own right). As you can tell, big fan of 'Battle of Britain'!

I've still got my motorised Dinky Spitfire somewhere. It's not in too bad shape, but the propellor only has two blades left.

Thanks mate. I've had the green 109 about thirteen years now, think I paid top dollar for it even back then but really wanted it. Still surprised at how few you see available compared to the tropical one. Aside from the USAF F-4 the other one that still eludes me is a minty boxed Jaguar, have seen one from time to time but never in quite good enough condition. I did have some of the civilian types a while back (Baron, Bonanza, HS125) but moved them on to make space. I am tempted to go after the military Baron again though, fond memories of one as a kid. 

I wish it was but alas its one of two i have one is by crossfire replicas and the other is by military muckabouts and a lot cheaper than the real deals at £325 each where the real steal is £4000 plus each. Though i do have two real SLRs and a sterling and other weapons to boot, now I'm a real actionman, wel I can dream, oh and a landy in full military spec, how sad am I.

Despite being obsessed with this film (and all things related) since its release, I was totally unaware of these cards until about fifteen years ago when I found this set for sale. 



I believe I have the complete set of 66 cards (although seems an odd number for a set). Every now and then an empty gum wrapper of these cards appears on eBay (it's listed presently), but at £60 I'll let it pass!
